Basic School Education
Basic education has been the focus of the Zigen Fund since it was established in 1988. In the past eighteen years, Zigen has been able to provide more than 80,000 scholarships to students from over 200 villages in 17 provinces in China. The scholarships cover the school and textbook fees for students who otherwise could not go to school due to financial difficulties.
In addition, Zigen has provided funding for extracurricular activities such as local arts and music and handicrafts programs. By supporting lunch supplements, drinking water installation, toilet construction, and heating facilities, Zigen has improved student life. Zigen has also supported pilot programs for rural teachers’ training and training of women teaching-assistants.
